Dacia Okeson grew up in Belfast, Maine, and moved to Carbondale in 2018. After beginning nursing school, she spent much of her early career in healthcare, working in roles ranging from direct patient care to healthcare IT. In 2022, she made a major career change and joined Colorado Animal Rescue, where she now serves as Development Director. Her beloved rescue dog, Tibby, played an important role in inspiring that move and her commitment to animal welfare.
Outside of work, Dacia shares her life with two dogs, three cats, and nine chickens. She is also an avid runner who has traded road marathons for trail ultramarathons and completed two 50Ks. Running has taught her perseverance, resilience, and the importance of trusting her own capabilities.
Dacia joined RFL to become more intentional about the leader she wants to be. She hopes to deepen her self awareness, strengthen her communication and relationship building skills, and become a more confident and thoughtful leader. Just as importantly, she wants to build relationships throughout the valley and become better equipped to collaborate across organizations and contribute to the broader community.
