In this RFL Live: Resiliency Experience with Beatriz Soto, she’ll be leading a conversation about environmental resilience.

She is currently the Director for Defiende Nuestra Tierra for Wilderness Workshop whose mission is to protect and conserve the wilderness and natural landscapes of the Roaring Fork Watershed, the White River National Forest, and adjacent public lands.

She is a LEED certified architect with 15 years of experience and a focus on green and sustainable design, she has earned professional acknowledgement in both the US and Mexico, offering professional development training for the US Green Building Council and the Mexican Green Building Council and, in 2007, winning the Emerging Green Builders competition in Colorado to represent the state at the national level in Chicago as an emerging green builder.

Beatriz helped CORE develop a bilingual workforce training program that helps construction workforce excel in high performance buildings and ensure a just transition of our local workforce, and is co-founder of Voces Unidas de las Montañas, a local nonprofit that creates opportunities for Latinos to lead and advocate for themselves.

Beatriz is the eldest daughter of immigrants. She grew up in a bilingual and bicultural household, where giving up and conforming to the status quo was never an option.

She is the proud mother of a nine-year-old Colorado native, first-generation American citizen, fourth grader at Glenwood Springs Elementary School, where she served as treasurer of the PTA last year. She is also an active member of the Roaring Fork School District, sitting on their Family Advisory.
