Alex Schrempf currently serves as the Athletics Coordinator for City of Aspen Parks & Recreation, as well as the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach in a part-time capacity for the Aspen School District. He has been in the valley for nearly four years, after moving to Carbondale after completing an Internship for the International Basketball Operations Department of the National Basketball Association in New York City in 2015.

Raised in Seattle, WA, Alex grew up with a passion for the sport of basketball and played through his sophomore year in college, before an injury redirected him to the opposite side of the sideline where he began his career in coaching. Having the opportunity to be involved with the Basketball Without Borders program, Alex assisted in coaching youth basketball camps for NBA Africa’s Grow the Game initiative in Nigeria and Morocco, and is going on 8 years as a basketball coach at the high school level.

After spending the majority of his life in cities, he attributes his found love of the mountains to his time spent in Sun Valley, Idaho, as a child where he learned to ski and snowboard, fish and mountain bike. With his position with the Aspen Parks & Recreation team, he hopes to continue benefitting the community by providing ever-progressing opportunities for locals in traditional athletics, and is excited for his opportunity to grow and develop as a leader through the Roaring Fork Leadership Academy.
